2017 Her Prom Closet Giveaway – Memphis, Tennessee
The 2017 Her Prom Closet Giveaway was more than we could have asked for. Couture Cares thanks Chick-fil-a (MidSouth), Sponsors, Donors , Community Partners and Volunteers for dedication and hard work. This year we were able to dress one hundred high school seniors. Embarking on or fourth year and number of recipients s increase by twenty five yearly.
During the Her Prom Closet Giveaway, the ladies not only receive formal wear for their prom, but they learn and receive knowledge. During the day of events, many women donated their time to teach our high school recipients about undergarments, make-up, and proper etiquette.
Our 2017 speaker Dr. Tavis Wade-Jones help set the tone and rock the house to add excitement, while encouraging inner city teenage youth about how to become the “Best You.
Moving over to the dressing rooms, several volunteers assisted the prom closet recipients building confidence by ringing the bell when they said YES TO THE DRESS. None of this would be possible without the Executive Director Ms. Davina Jones. The tone has been set of expectations for years to come. Davina sparked the students interest by letting them know how much she believed in them. We even had some young ladies showcase talents while waiting their chance to pick through the thousand of donated dresses.
Couture Cares Presents “Her Prom Closet” 2017 from start to finish was a complete success. Many young ladies could not believe the generosity in Davina’s heart to put this event together and ensuring that each recipient had everything needed free of charge. Leading up the the event Davina and Couture Cares members hosted a Prom Closet Drive to set up drop off locations around the city. Davina worked with several Chick-fil-a’s to host the drive by helping as a drop off location for each Saturday during the entire month of Febuary.
Davina Jones hopes that next year will be even better, with the ability to help and reach more. For more information on how to become a Community Partner or to make a donation, visit our site couturecares.org
